1953 was a productive year for the Danish entrepreneurial furniture designer and cabinetmaker Helge Sibast, who spent it coming up with three of his most iconic designs, the dining chairs Sibast No 7, No 8 and No 9. This year Sibast Furniture celebrates the 70th anniversary of the iconic dining chairs and adds another chapter to the story of the relaunch of the Danish design heritage.
The celebration will take place in Copenhagen at Denmarks Annual Design Festival

The reason the chairs are still relevant today is not least because they were already innovative in 1953. Helge Sibast (1908-1985), a visionary designer with a refined sense of materials and a keen eye for the craft, dared take his design to the brink of what was technically possible. The furniture designer’s daring design is clearly expressed in the Sibast No 7, No 8 and No 9 chairs which are characterized by their wide, extraordinarily curved top rails. In these chairs, Helge Sibast tested the limits of moulding technology at the time.
Sibast Furniture works uncompromisingly to recreate Helge Sibast’s design-led chairs, which are now being produced to the same high standards of craftsmanship as when they were originally created, led by the 4th generation of the Sibast family, Ditlev Sibast and his wife Anna.
