In their exhibition The Museum of Masonite, the Swedish design studio Folkform emphasizes the importance of sharing knowledge about how objects are made in an era when small-scale, local industry is threatened by global mass production.
The Folkform duo got to know each other at the Stockholm University College of Arts, Crafts and Design, where they created their renowned furniture with flowers pressed into Masonite. The exhibition at Stockholm Furniture Fair showcases their works over the past 15 years, made using Swedish Masonite boards, and includes a series of brand-new pieces.
– Today, it feels more important than ever to gather and spread knowledge about how furniture and other objects actually are made. The proximity to the manufacturing processes has become even more meaningful, say Anna Holmquist and Chandra Ahlsell of the design studio Folkform.
After the opening at Stockholm Furniture Fair, the exhibition will continue to Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in Mississippi, which is where the material was invented in 1924.
Stockholm Furniture Fair 2024 will take place 6-10 February 2024.
