When the Nordic region’s most important meeting place for interior design – Formex – opens its doors for the 116th time, the theme is WE ARE. The theme will be expressed through trends, knowledge, and inspiration in the form of exhibitions, workshops, and lectures, among other things. At the entrance square, Formex will create a unique environment and fairytale world with a Nordic touch together with the creator and florist Anna Starrén. Formex will take place at Stockholmsmässan from August 27 to 29.
From August 27 to 29, 2024, it is once again time for Formex – the meeting place with a focus on interior design. Here, national and international buyers, agents, wholesalers, importers, designers, producers, and media have gathered since 1960, but it has never been as important for the industry to meet as it is now.
– After some tough years in the interior design industry, things are starting to brighten up, as we noticed not least at the latest fair in January, where many of our exhibiting companies sold much better than expected. Today, it is more important than ever for the industry to be able to gather under one roof to be as effective as possible in terms of purchasing, knowledge, inspiration, and networking, says Sonja Björk Ebert, project manager for Formex.
– In August, the focus is on creativity, forward-thinking, and innovative collaborations. With the theme WE ARE, we want to manifest that Formex is a fair that has been around for 64 years and will continue to be around for many years to come. As always, we are here for our exhibitors and visitors, continues Sonja Björk Ebert, project manager for Formex.
The shop in the forest – A Nordic fairytale
The theme WE ARE will permeate the entire fair, and already at the entrance square, visitors will get a first hint of what Formex in August, the 116th in order, will contain. To receive the assignment to create Formex’s entrance square exhibition is an honorable task, and after the pandemic years, among others, the Design Agency Bang Universe, Tekla Severin, Lena Nyholm, and Dennis Valencia have taken on the task. This time, Formex, together with the creator and florist Anna Starrén, has created a 200 sqm entrance square exhibition.
– We are very happy to work together with Anna, who with a CV full of knowledge, joy, and playfulness and her unique vision will create a fairytale world on the fairground that will make soda feel like an everyday drink, says Sonja Björk Ebert.
– For me, Formex is a fresh start and kickoff. It is at Formex that I have chosen the tools for my gigantic fix and tricks box. Over the years, I have been both a classic visitor making purchases for a store and have been an exhibitor. In addition, I have also built trend exhibitions and a café on behalf of Formex. It feels great to now have received the assignment to create the main exhibition for autumn 2024, says Anna Starrén.
The August entrance square exhibition has been named “The shop in the Forest – A Nordic Fairytale” and will be designed as a shop to provide inspiration, knowledge, and new dimensions for everyone visiting the fair. The exhibition takes its starting point in Formex’s trend guide for autumn 2024 as well as the exhibitors’ own products.
– I want to create a parenthesis where we can allow ourselves to be distracted for a while by the magic of craftsmanship and creativity. Think of a maxed-out country store deluxe – a fairytale world with one foot in the future. A natural break that opens the door to something we have never seen before, says Anna Starrén and continues.
– We will invite visitors to a sparkling autumn and winter world of Nordic elegance and mystique. Directly from the late summer warmth, visitors will encounter a magical environment with Nordic craftsmanship, workshops, fabulous store environments, and much more, where sustainability and craftsmanship meet maximalism and escapism. We simply want to offer a place that inspires both leaps and bounds and creativity.
