Svenskt Tenn:
A Philosophy
of Home @ Liljevalchs

On September 27, Svenskt Tenn: A Philosophy of Home opens at Liljevalchs in Stockholm. The exhibition will be the largest of its kind to date about the pioneering and distinctive world of Svenskt Tenn, founder Estrid Ericson and architect and designer Josef Frank.

The exhibition will take place in 13 thematic rooms at Liljevalchs and will include unique objects, loans from international museums and private collections, and objects that have rarely been shown before. Liljevalchs and Svenskt Tenn’s relationship and previous collaboration dates back to the company’s inception, when Estrid Ericson began participating with objects in the art gallery’s exhibitions as early as 1925. In 1934, Liljevalchs was the venue for Josef Frank’s famous debut at Svenskt Tenn, when the now iconic “Liljevalchs sofa” was introduced. The interiors shown in 1934 are one of many that will be reflected in the 2024 exhibition; interiors that over the past hundred years have been presented at major international exhibitions, shown in Svenskt Tenn’s shop at Strandvägen 5, designed for private clients, or for the designers’ own homes.

Several of the interiors featured in the exhibition will be displayed with original furniture and objects. Together they illustrate Estrid Ericson and Josef Frank’s distinctive interior design philosophy – a vision of the home as modern, comfortable and inviting, something that is constantly changing and where the focus is on people. The exhibition is curated by London-based curator and author Jane Withers together with Swedish Tenn’s Head Curator Karin Södergren.
