OEO Studio x Time & Style
for Noma Kyoto
A Love Letter to Autumn in Kyoto:
Noma Returns
Since Noma Kyoto blossomed in the spring of 2023, OEO Studio has been working closely with the noma team again to create a truly magical and mesmerizing new experience for Noma Kyoto in the fall of 2024, drawing us back to the very same space at Ace Hotel Kyoto. The restaurant space is reborn, taking on a new and unexpected incarnation like a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly. This time, we’re enveloped in a forest bed of golden, burnt brown, and reddish leaves, relics of the woods.
A large wooden structure, inspired by Japanese miyadaiku techniques, creates an intimate, warm, and welcoming atmosphere, where thousands of dried leaves, hand-stitched and threaded, hang gracefully. Vintage brown and burnt red sake bags adorn the walls and form a bespoke ceiling in the Garden Private Dining Room. In addition to the sake bags, panels of eelgrass by Danish Søuld have been used for acoustics and as décor.
A focal point in the main dining room is a bespoke thatched art wall by the Japanese artist and thatcher Ikuya Sagara. New editions to last year’s wine and sake coolers, by artist Shuji Nakagawa, feature different woods, burnt degrees, and butterfly details. Another feature is the central column in the main dining room, which has been meticulously decorated by washi paper artist Wataru Hatano.
Creating something truly unique is never easy, and this year is no different. We are pushing boundaries, and we are incredibly proud to announce our collaboration with
Time & Style in this adventure.
OEO Studio
Copenhagen-based noma, ranked as the best restaurant in the world numerous times and a landmark in fine dining that has significantly influenced culinary trends, has opened a temporary 10-week residency restaurant in Kyoto. The furniture in the restaurant is designed by OEO Studio, which also created the spatial experience and interiors, and was manufactured by Time & Style. Made from traditional Japanese materials such as zelkova and Yoshino cedar, the furniture will be a new addition to Time & Style’s collection.
