Exploring the inspiration and ideas behind the Rime Pendant Lamp through a studio visit at TAF Studio – Muuto

A refined interpretation Rime Pendant Lamp

Exploring the inspiration and ideas behind the Rime Pendant Lamp through a studio visit with Gabriella Lenke and Mattias Ståhlbom of TAF Studio in Stockholm, Sweden.

“Designing simple things is one of the hardest things to do”, says designer Mattias Ståhlbom of TAF Studio and adds: “We wanted to create a simple lamp with a glass shape, giving it a soft expression while making its top and pendant tube as subtle as possible.”

Designed with a characterful shape that allows for the Rime Pendant Lamp to blend into any atmosphere, the design brings a contemporary perspective to the traditional glass pendant through its semi-transparent glass that has been etched for a refined surface expression.

Noting on the inspiration for the expression of the design, Lenke says: “We were inspired by the shape of acorns for the gentle lines of the pendant while hinting towards the shaded expression of ice and rime for its glass, allowing for light to shine slightly through with a refined touch.”

Speaking on TAF Studio’s design process and their design philosophy, the duo notes: “Our design process is based on a continuous discussion and investigation. Various elements are present within this: environment, aesthetics, physics, logistics—all parameters that belong to the design process,” and continues: “Our designs are everyday objects that should stand the test of time. Through its contemporary form, the Rime Pendant Lamp brings a timeless yet modern perspective to the archetypal light.”

With its subtle, modern touch, the Rime Pendant Lamp is complemented by a powder-coated top part, pendant tube and cord in matching color. Speaking on the ethos of the design, Ståhlbom says: “The proportions of the design make for a new perspective through the technical meeting of using as much glass as possible without compromising on the form of the design.”

The Rime Pendant Lamp is available in four colors across four sizes, allowing you to use the design on its own or in linear formations or playful clusters for a modern chandelier.
