Holscher Knud | Scandinavian Design

Knud Holscher, 1930-2025

Architect Knud Holscher was renowned for his clear, unambiguous design identity and meticulous attention to materials. A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, he served as senior partner at KHR A/S—one of Denmark’s largest architectural firms—from 1968 to 1995. Following his tenure there, he established his own practice, Knud Holscher Design, which encompassed a diverse range of design disciplines.

Throughout his career, Holscher maintained a consistent design philosophy: creating solutions that prioritized the individual user experience while considering how products would function in public environments. This dual focus on personal usability and public application became a defining characteristic of his work, influencing generations of Danish designers and contributing significantly to the legacy of Scandinavian design excellence.

His approach exemplified the best of Danish design tradition—where form follows function, but never at the expense of human connection and practical application.
