“Don´t we all wish to work next to a green window? GreenFrame floor screens by Glimakra of Sweden embraces greenery and enlightens your favorite potted plants.”
Designer: Johan Kauppi
GreenFrame is a floor screen for potted plants with integrated lighting by Glimakra of Sweden, designed by Johan kauppi, to be launched at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2018. GreenFrame allows plants to play a prominent role in interiors – even where daylight may not be enough. A massive wood furniture, ambitiously manufactured with the purpose to contribute to better indoor climate, nicer workplaces and happier plants.
Frame your favorites! Do you dream about working next to a dense mini-jungle? Would you like to have your collection of orchids near, or do you simply wish to celebrate “Monstera Monday” all week? GreenFrame celebrates potted plants and greenery through the minimalist wooden frame, which makes them stay well and look good. The illuminated frame encourages the interest in plants, making the greenery hard to miss and easy to enjoy.
GreenFrame is a floor screen and divider, which helps to create green areas even where daylight may not be enough. In Scandinavia in particular, with fewer hours of daylight during the dark half of the year, light support is often needed when overwintering potted plants. The screens can be individually furnished as a green oasis in middle of rooms, or as back scenes adjacent to walls. They can also be repeated in long prodigious rows or angles. The frames are stable and airy constructed, allowing the chosen plants to influence the appearance of the screens. Additionally, leafy plants contributes to positive room acoustics through their ability to diffuse sound.
“I wanted to investigate how much a floor screen could be simplified. When everything except the naked elegant wood frame was reduced, I became interested in seeing what it could be filled with. I often long for the forest and have a beautiful norfolk pine next to my desk, always making me happy. Perhaps my plants could fit in the frame? To make plants grow and prosper, light is needed. Glimakra of Sweden who has great knowledge of wood production since decades, did an amazing job when they managed to integrate the lighting in the top of the frame, and concealed all electrical components in the frame itself. The result is a stripped and restrained furniture in solid wood – a mixture of a room divider, green furniture and light fixture. “ – The Designer Johan Kauppi explains.
“Limbus GreenFrame” can be considered a sibling to the sound absorbing floor screen “Limbus Subtle” (a German Design Award Winner 2018), also from Glimakra of Sweden, sharing the same dimensions and significant wooden legs. But by all means, they are each other’s total opposites. Limbus Subtle is a dense upholstered screen with extra high sound absorption. In contrast, Limbus GreenFrame is a fully transparent divider with lighting. Nevertheless, they have a mission in common – to contribute to better workplaces and indoor environment.
GreenFrame is manufactured in 100 % recyclable material, entirely in solid ash wood by advanced CNC milling, where both the luminaire, power cables and adapter are hidden in the frame itself, delivered ready-to-assemble. Plant saucers and legs are screwed underneath the frame, and a long cord with a foot switch allows you to turn on and off the light. On the three wooden plant saucers, potted plants can be kept and combined as desired.
