Mazo launches MOD Shelving System: a play with the properties of oak and aluminum materials resulting in a stylistically strong and functional furniture design
Mazo introduces their latest creation, the MOD Shelving System, a new modular shelving system that stands out with its minimalist design, simple and robust construction, and honest exploration of the materials aluminum and oak. MOD is being launched during 3DaysOfDesign and serves as a highlight in Mazo’s showroom in Copenhagen.
Simplicity in the design
Simplicity is at the core of MOD Shelving System’s aesthetics. Each element has been carefully streamlined to remove anything superfluous and retain only the most essential. This principle is evident in the design of the shelves, where the classic push-and-pull method in structural engineering has been utilized to ensure their self-supporting nature. MOD begins as a study in simplicity, with clear, geometric lines where the clean vertical lines elegantly meet the horizontal surfaces. Every aspect of MOD is infused with honesty, where functionality is complemented by intelligent use of materials.
Magnus Sangild, the designer behind MOD and also Head of Design and Partner at Mazo, states: “I have experimented with the materials and explored their load-bearing capacity as a fundamental idea in our system, where I have added simple design features such as folded aluminum plates to reinforce the shelves, brace them, and make them self-supporting. It’s a robust construction where the shelves can carry up to 15 kg. The slight bend in the aluminum also adds a simple aesthetic detail to the design.”
