Pia Wallén has introduced the Mega Crux blanket
— a scaled-up, formally abstracted version of the Crux blanket she originally designed in 1991.
The Crux blanket, with its cross motif, is Wallén’s most recognised textile design and one of the most consistently referenced Swedish textile objects of the 1990s.
The Mega Crux takes that same geometric premise and exaggerates it in scale, treating the cross pattern as an abstract graphic element rather than a repeating motif. The result is a blanket where the cross occupies a significant portion of the surface, giving the object a stronger visual presence and a character that sits between textile and graphic design.
The blanket is available in Black/Grey and measures 135 × 210 cm. It is handcrafted at one of Scotland’s most established weaving mills — a facility with a history dating to 1866 — and made from a blend of 90% lambswool and 10% cashmere. The material specification reflects Wallén’s consistent attention to fibre quality: the combination of lambswool and cashmere produces a blanket with warmth, softness, and durability that positions the object as much as a long-term domestic investment as a designed piece.
Pia Wallén is a Swedish textile designer based in Stockholm. Her practice has focused primarily on wool as a material, producing objects that range from blankets and slippers to larger textile works. She received the Torsten and Wanja Söderberg Prize in 2001. The Crux blanket series remains her best-known body of work and continues in production.
