Scandinavian Design Embassy is a new joint initiative by the Nordic countries to promote and strengthen Scandinavian design internationally through events at Nordic embassies. The premiere took place at the Finnish ambassador’s residence in Dublin.
On November 28, 2024, Dublin was the center of Scandinavian design when two of the Nordic region’s leading design companies, Swedish Massproductions and Finnish Nikari, participated in the first edition of Scandinavian Design Embassy. The event took place at the Finnish ambassador’s residence with support from the newly inaugurated Swedish embassy in Dublin.
The event gives Irish designers, retailers, and architects the opportunity to experience the latest in sustainable and high-quality Scandinavian design. It also marks the start of a larger initiative introducing Nordic design brands to new markets.
“We are very pleased with the collaboration between the Nordic countries. Together we can showcase the unique design that characterizes the Nordic region and increase the impact of sustainable design internationally. It’s not just about marketing products, but also about building a more sustainable society together,” says Madeleine Sjöstedt, Director General of the Swedish Institute.
The idea for Scandinavian Design Embassy builds on the success of Finnish Design Embassy, which over the past three years has helped Finnish design brands and designers do business globally. Now the project is expanding to Sweden and other Nordic countries. The pilot event in Dublin brings together key organizations such as Finnish Design Embassy, the Swedish Institute, and Svensk Form. In the future, partners from Norway, Denmark, and Iceland will also join.
