Svensk Form celebrates its 180th anniversary by reintroducing the design award Excellent Swedish Design, originally launched in 1983. The award, which has historically served as a platform for recognizing groundbreaking design, is now returning to its original name and format.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, Svensk Form also announces significant news: H.R.H. Prince Carl Philip has accepted the role of patron of Svensk Form, emphasizing the importance of Swedish design and the organization’s work.
A national award for Swedish design
Excellent Swedish Design is an annual award that celebrates outstanding design and design in Sweden. By reintroducing this award, originally established in 1983, Svensk Form aims to strengthen and raise the profile of Swedish design – both nationally and internationally. The award highlights design that combines creativity, sustainability and social relevance, while contributing to the cultural heritage of the future.
The prize is awarded annually at a ceremony in September and is accompanied by an exhibition presenting the winning entries. The exhibition opens each spring in the next year’s host city and runs until September, when the next winner is announced.
Upcoming dividends:
• 2025: Award ceremony on September 16th at the National Museum in Stockholm.
• 2026: Award ceremony in September in Malmö.

What does Excellent Swedish Design mean?
Utmärkt Svensk Form recognizes design that is not only aesthetically and functionally strong, but also engages, challenges and contributes to the development of Swedish design. The award rewards design that unites:
