The design brand Le Klint presents Celine, a pendant designed by OEO Studio and produced by Le Klint for Designmuseum Danmark in connection with the comprehensive renovation of the museum two years ago. As a tribute to Le Klint’s historical relationship with the museum, Celine is now in production and will be available for purchase in the autumn of 2024.
Kaare Klint and Designmuseum Danmark
Originally, it was the Danish architects Kaare Klint and Ivar Bentsen who, at the end of the 1920s, transformed the former Royal Frederiks Hospital into a museum – the former Danish Museum of Art & Design. Not only did Kaare Klint furnish and design all the interior for the museum, but he also taught and lived at the museum for a period. Based at the museum, he was a mentor for several of the most renowned Danish architects and designers of the 20th century. Since the 1940s, the museum has had Le Klint’s iconic Model 101, also called The Lantern, hanging in the museum’s guest areas, which was designed for the museum by Kaare Klint.

From 2020 to 2022, Designmuseum Danmark was closed and underwent extensive renovation and remodeling to future-proof the museum and its historic building structures. In this context, the design studio OEO Studio was tasked with designing the new guest areas in the museum. With respect for the legacy of Kaare Klint, the original frameworks were redesigned by OEO Studio. They chose, among other things, to retain the iconic Model 101 pendants from Le Klint. At the same time, the idea arose to design something new for the museum.
“In our design process, we were inspired by the thought of carrying on the legacy and designing a new lamp in the spirit of Kaare Klint, which was directly inspired by the museum and Kaare Klint’s work, and which could further elaborate on the history and special relationship between Le Klint and Designmuseum Danmark. After presenting the idea to Kim Weckstrøm Jensen, CEO of Le Klint, the first tentative lines were drawn, and Celine was created,” says Thomas Lykke from OEO Studio and adds: “Celine is a tribute to the museum and a thank you to Kaare Klint, who has always been a great inspiration to us due to his uncompromising, aesthetic, detail-rich, timeless, and grandiose expression with a touch of democratic approach.”
