The Featured photo ArkDes collections

Prolonged exhibition space! Constructing Worlds have walked on, but the Swedish supplement to the exhibition will be shown throughout the summer. ArkDes has the largest collection of architectural photography with closer to 600,000 images. The exhibition In the spotlight, we lift the lid on a Swedish cultural treasure with pictures from some of the Swedish architectural history’s foremost photographers. Many never before seen.

In the Swedish extension “In the spotlight – photo ArkDes Collection” features works from the collections, often the photographers original copies. The Swedish sample presented ranging in time from the Stockholm Exhibition 1930 until the Swedish landscape architects patterning 1989. Among the selection are among other CG Rosenberg’s photographs of Eskilstuna bathhouse that was shown at MOMA in 1932. There are also pictures of Sune Sundahls amazing collection of nearly 195 000 pictures consisting of glass plates and hasselblad film ArkDes received in the 1980s. For Sundahl it was obvious that people would be in the picture, buildings’re there for them.

In the exhibition, visitors can see Kerstin Bernhard pictures from Hotel Malmen in the 1950s, where the architecture of Georg Varhelyi and Carl-Axel Acking been acting fund.

Other participating photographers are Gustaf Cronquist, PålNils Nilsson, Anna Riwkin-Brick, Jan Olsson, Lennart Olsson and Sven Westerlund. There are nine photographers’ interpretations of various subjects that can hopefully inspire the viewer to own excursions, and insights into the world of architecture.

Background:

ArkDes photo collection has its main focus on the Swedish modernism, here depicted 1900s architecture as shaped by the architects and the collection is the largest of its kind in Sweden. The material has largely come as donations from architects or architectural offices in Sweden through active collection efforts, but also photographers and institutions have contributed to the collection currently consists of approximately 600,000 photographs. The collection contains negatives, slides, original copies and a small part original digital photo. More than 15 000 of our photo collections are now searchable through the platform digitaltmuseum.se

Förlängd utställningstid! Constructing Worlds har vandrat vidare, men det svenska tillägget till utställningen kommer att visas hela sommaren. ArkDes har Sveriges största samling av arkitekturfotografi med närmre 600 000 bilder. I utställningen I blickfånget lyfter vi på locket till en svensk kulturskatt med bilder från några av svensk arkitekturhistorias främsta fotografer. Många aldrig tidigare visade.
I det svenska tillägget ”I blickfånget – foto från ArkDes samlingar” visas verk ur samlingarna, oftast fotografernas originalkopior. Det svenska urvalet som presenteras sträcker sig tidsmässigt från Stockholmsutställningen 1930 fram till Sveriges landskapsarkitekters mönstring 1989. Bland urvalet finns bland annat CG Rosenbergs fotografier av Eskilstuna badhus som visades på MOMA redan 1932. Här finns även bilder från Sune Sundahls fantastiska samling med närmare 195 000 bilder bestående av glasplåtar och hasselbladsfilm som ArkDes mottog på 1980-talet. För Sundahl var det självklart att människor skulle finnas med på bilden, byggnader är ju till för dem.

Övriga medverkande fotografer är Gustaf Cronquist, PålNils Nilsson, Anna Riwkin-Brick, Jan Olsson, Lennart Olsson och Sven Westerlund. Det är nio fotografers tolkningar av skilda motiv som förhoppningsvis kan inspirera betraktaren till egna utflykter och insikter i arkitekturens värld.

– Fotografier har sedan ArkDes bildades varit en viktig grund för att sprida kunskap om svensk arkitektur. Det känns därför jättekul att vi kan lyfta fram och visa publiken den unika skatt som finns i våra samlingar, säger Karin Åberg Waern, Tf. publik chef på ArkDes.

Bakgrund:

ArkDes fotosamling har sin tyngdpunkt i den svenska modernismen, här skildras 1900-talets byggnadskonst som den formats av arkitekter och samlingen är den största i sitt slag i Sverige. Materialet har till stor del kommit som donationer från arkitekter eller arkitektkontor i Sverige genom aktiva insamlingsinsatser, men även fotografer och institutioner har bidragit till samlingen som idag består av ca 600 000 fotografier. Samlingen innehåller negativ, diabilder, originalkopior och en liten del digitalt originalfoto. Mer än 15 000 av våra fotosamlingar är idag sökbara genom plattformen digitaltmuseum.se
