Soft Top on Wheels – Brad Ascalon for Skandiform

Soft Top Chair and Bar Stool on Wheels is a mobile extension of the Soft Top series, designed by Brad Ascalon for Swedish manufacturer Skandiform.

The Soft Top family was first introduced by Skandiform in 2018 as a lightweight, stackable guest and conference chair — earning the German Design Award that year.

In 2020, Ascalon extended the collection with new additions including bar stools, counter stools and benches. The wheeled versions address a specific need: flexible workspaces where seating must move with the activity.

The design intent behind Soft Top has always been versatility without sacrificing character. The upholstered seat and back give the chair a domestic warmth atypical of contract furniture, making it equally suited to offices, home workspaces, educational environments and hospitality settings. The wheeled frame — available in black or white lacquered metal — brings that same quality to more dynamic environments where standing, sitting and repositioning are part of the workflow.

Brad Ascalon earned his Master’s in Industrial Design from New York’s Pratt Institute in 2005. He collaborates with manufacturers across Europe and North America, including Carl Hansen & Son, Glimakra of Sweden and Mitab, in addition to Skandiform.

The Soft Top on Wheels extensions received the Interior Design HiP Award in 2020.
