ICE FLOE
The Ice Floe, designed by Tapio Wirkkala, is truly something amazing. It’s a multifunctional decorative object that comes in two different sizes. Tapio Wirkkala designed these Ice Floes in 1976, and they are still made using the original moulds, handcrafted by Wirkkala himself.

Ice platter art piece
The glass ice platter resembles a piece of melting ice floating on water. Designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1976, this decorative ice platter is a perfect eye-catcher for both decor and serving. This larger-sized ice platter is ideal for creating a memorable dinner, as it can be chilled in the freezer and used to serve sushi or handmade chocolates. It’s also an excellent choice for displaying jewellery or even showcasing your favourite perfumes in the bathroom.

This stunning decorative ice platter is handcrafted by casting molten glass into a mould, which is then spun so that the glass spreads out and takes the shape of the object. The moulds used are the original ones, handcrafted by Tapio Wirkkala himself. Each ice platter is signed with the designer’s initials and the year of manufacture. Please note that the ice platter is not suitable for use with candles.
Hand moulded. Made in Finland.

Tapio Wirkkala
Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) was a multitalented design genius, widely considered a leading figure of modern Finnish industrial art. Wirkkala’s wide ranging portfolio spans from glass, furniture and product design to sculpture, city planning, art, graphics and even creating banknotes for the Finnish treasury. As his reputation grew internationally, Wirkala exhibited throughout the world but he was a recluse by nature. His favorite place was a spot so remote within the deep woodlands of middle Finland that helicopters delivered prototypes to his hut since no car could reach him. It was in nature that he found his much loved solitude and the inspiration for forms that industry could produce or artwork could create. Throughout his incredibly productive career, Wirkkala received numerous awards including three gold medals at the Milan Triennale, the Lunning Prize, Pro Finlandia Medal and the Prince Eugen Medal.
