A Legacy Reborn
Spring in Sweden arrives slowly, awakening like a frozen memory. Little by little, the world begins to shift – the air, the energy, the colors. Then, before you know it, everything changes, and a new story has begun.
This poetic transformation perfectly captures the essence of Kasthall’s newest collection: Anemon. Discovered in the company’s extensive archives, this tufted rug design originated from an aquarelle painting created in 1991 by Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, the visionary behind many of Kasthall’s iconic pieces.
Like a flower beneath winter snow, the original sketch lay dormant for decades, waiting for the right moment to bloom again. When rediscovered by the Kasthall Design Studio, Anemon was reimagined for contemporary spaces while maintaining its timeless Scandinavian aesthetic – elegantly balancing tradition and innovation.
Artistry in Every Fiber
What appears delicate at first glance conceals remarkable substance beneath. Anemon is tufted with Kasthall’s trusted “Classic” quality – primarily pure wool with a touch of linen that adds subtle luster and light reflection. This careful material selection creates not only visual depth but ensures the durability essential for a legacy piece.
The dense, cut pile achieves a technical precision that brings the floral pattern to life through sharp lines and defined shapes. Each rug becomes an artistic canvas where craftsmanship meets design, creating pieces that will develop character and patina beautifully over generations.
Nature’s Palette
Named after the beloved spring flower known for its delicate beauty and graceful stem, Anemon captures the essence of seasonal renewal. The collection features three distinct colorways:
• Blue Edition: Closest to the original design, this version employs approximately 20 different color blends and over 30 yarn colors, creating six tones for the leaves and five for the pistils.
• Lilac Edition: A soft, dreamy interpretation that evokes the gentle purples of early spring blooms.
• Coral Edition: A warm, vibrant expression that brings energy and contemporary flair to the classic pattern.
A Celebration of Craft
Unveiled during Milan Design Week as part of “The Springtime of Kasthall & Astrid,” Anemon stands as a testament to Scandinavian design excellence. The installation, created by A Studio Between in the heart of Milan’s Brera district, invites visitors to slow down and appreciate the beauty of natural materials, skilled craftsmanship, and timeless design.
Like the Swedish spring it embodies, Anemon represents renewal and continuity – a timeless legacy, carried beautifully into the future.
