Danish designer Piet Hein’s enigmatic Tempel table lamp has been recreated and launched in three aluminium finishes: black, steel, and brass
Originally designed in wood during the 1960s, the lamp existed only in a few photographs and memories until its 2025 relaunch.
The Tempel lamp was recreated by Piet Hein’s youngest son, Hugo Piet Hein, working from archival photographs rather than original sketches or prototypes. The new aluminium construction maintains the lamp’s sculptural form while honoring the simplicity and elegance of the original wooden version.

Each Tempel lamp measures Ø28 x H24.5 cm and features integrated dimmable LED (7W, 600lm, 2700K, 20,000 hours) with touch-controlled three-stage dimming at 100%, 50%, and 20%. The lamp includes a 2-meter black cord and IP20 rating, making it suitable for Nordic interiors seeking minimalist lighting solutions.
The lamp’s return represents a piece of Danish design history, carefully brought back to life with respect for Piet Hein’s original vision. The three material options allow the lamp to complement different interior aesthetics while maintaining its timeless sculptural expression.

Piet Hein received numerous international design awards including the Alexander Graham Bell Silver Bell (1968), Die gute Industrieform (1971), and recognition as Doctor of Human Letters at Yale University (1972). He remains one of Denmark’s most internationally recognized figures alongside physicist Niels Bohr and author Karen Blixen.
