Jørgen Bækmark’s Woven Chair Series Returns: J80 and J82
The J80 dining chair and J82 lounge chair form part of a woven series designed by Jørgen Bækmark for FDB Møbler.
Both pieces reflect the design ambitions of the cooperative’s most productive decade — the 1950s — when well-made furniture was brought within reach of a broader public.

Bækmark joined FDB Møbler in 1958 and served as design director for nine years. During that period he shaped much of the manufacturer’s output, and the J80 series stands as one of its most enduring results. The construction is straightforward: solid wood frames, paper cord weaving, and a proportional honesty that has kept the chairs relevant across successive interiors.
The J80 is a dining chair, available with or without armrests. The J82, launched in 1962, adapts the same vocabulary into a lounge chair — lower and more generous in its seat, equally suited to extended use. Both function well as freestanding pieces and hold their character without dependence on a particular setting.
Jørgen Bækmark was born in 1929 and died in 2021. His work at FDB Møbler helped establish a Danish furniture identity rooted in material quality and accessible form.

JØRGEN BÆKMARK
Jørgen Bækmark (b. 1929 – 2021) is behind several iconic Danish furniture. From 1958 and nine years on, he was a design director of FDB Møbler, where he helped make design furniture available to the common man.
Based on the Danish design tradition, his furniture is characterized by a beautiful, quiet design language and a solid craft with the eye for the smallest details. There is a special harmony in the furniture, including in his classic dining table chairs J80 and J81.
Perhaps most importantly, Jørgen Bækmark has always emphasized comfort, which his furniture bears the mark of the day today.
