Wedge Origami and Wedge XL in Natural Colours, both designed by Marie-Louise Hellgren

Wedge Origami

The Wedge Origami is a hand-tufted rug made from 100% wool. Its name references the Japanese paper-folding tradition: straight and diagonal cut lines run across the surface in a soft white, high-quality yarn, giving the carpet a linear, minimalist character. The result is a monochrome rug that balances geometric precision with quiet elegance — understated in colour but considered in form.

Wedge XL in Natural Colours

The new Wedge XL in Natural Colours was developed to fill a gap in the collection: a heavier, more hardwearing rug with a natural jute-like feel. It is made from high-quality, undyed natural wool that retains more of its natural lanolin fats — providing built-in stain resistance without chemical treatments.

To demonstrate its durability, Asplund subjected the rugs to what it calls the ultimate Swedish winter boot test: the rugs were placed on the showroom floor and heavily walked on with winter boots during a snowy, salt-filled Swedish week. After patting with a damp cloth, drying, and vacuuming, they showed no lasting damage. The handloom construction produces a pile approximately 8–10 mm thick. A line pattern in contrasting colours runs across the natural base. Available in 160 × 240 cm, 200 × 300 cm, and 250 × 350 cm.

Both additions continue a design language Hellgren has developed for Asplund since 2018. Geometric patterns — circular shapes in particular — have long been central to her work. A closer look at the surface typically reveals subtle, hand-sketched variations to the geometry: controlled spontaneity that prevents the pattern from becoming purely mechanical.

“Timeless design together with a sustainable and circular way of thinking have always been important for me. Every piece that I create should have a subtle presence and a message without being intrusive.
