Norwegian designer Peter Opsvik is the subject of a major exhibition at Rørosmuseet in Røros, Norway.
“Peter Opsvik – Moved by Movement” explores his work across five decades as an industrial designer, artist and musician, and examines how movement — physical and emotional — has shaped everything he has created.
The exhibition covers Opsvik’s celebrated career in furniture design, where his chairs have consistently challenged conventional ideas about sitting.

His best-known works include the Tripp Trapp children’s chair for Stokke and the Capisco saddle chair for HÅG, alongside the Variable and Garden chairs. His philosophy is direct: “The best sitting posture is always the next.” By designing chairs that promote shifting between positions, Opsvik placed the moving body at the centre of his practice.
A significant focus of the exhibition is the long-running collaboration between Opsvik and the office chair manufacturer HÅG, whose production base in Røros created a close link between designer, company and community. This relationship is presented as a model of how design collaboration can benefit multiple parties over time.
“Moved by Movement” also presents Opsvik’s work beyond the drawing board — his visual art, music and objects that sit between furniture and sculpture. Together, these strands reveal a designer whose ambitions extended well beyond function.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Peter Opsvik AS, Rørosmuseet, Kunst & Kaos, and Vinterfestspill i Bergstaden. It is on view in Smelthytta at Rørosmuseet from 6 March through mid-September 2026.
