Icelandic Nature Meets Danish Modernism in Dögg’s Edge Collection

Icelandic-Danish designer Dögg Guðmundsdóttir has created the Edge collection for Danish brand Andersen Furniture — a series of three aluminum objects with oak handles that translates the raw terrain of Iceland into functional form.

The collection includes the Edge Side Table, Edge Mirror, and Edge Magazine Holder.

Each piece is characterized by asymmetrical geometry and sharp, angular lines that stand apart from the softer aesthetic typical of Scandinavian design. The forms draw on silhouettes of trees, mountain contours, cracks in ice, and the texture of dry sand — references that give the collection a quiet tension between the natural and the industrial.

The Edge Side Table is the most versatile piece in the series. Positioned vertically, it functions as a small shelving unit with the top surface serving as a side table and shelves suited for displaying objects. Turned horizontally, it becomes a low side table with storage for books, magazines, or similar items. The maximum load capacity is 5 kg. The combination of powder-coated metal and an oak rod keeps the visual weight light despite the geometric precision of the construction.

Dögg Guðmundsdóttir trained in Reykjavik, Milan, and Copenhagen and has worked with Nordic and European brands across furniture, lighting, ceramics, and textiles for more than 25 years. Her practice connects Icelandic material culture with Danish modernist craft traditions. She also teaches sustainable design innovation and leads workshops on recycled materials for educators.
