Returning to 3daysofdesign, VÆRKTØJ 3 marks the third edition of the award-winning exhibition format exploring the role of tools in the design field.
This year, the sewing machine – a tool found in industrial and domestic settings – has been used, in part or in full, to create each piece in the exhibition. From this common starting point VÆRKTØJ 3 reflects on how tools shape both process and outcome – and how tools quietly inform material choices, forms, and ideas.
The exhibition features new work from:
• Erwan Bouroullec
• Foster + Partners Industrial Design
• Frederik Gustav
• Jonas Trampedach
• Kasper Salto
• Louise Campbell
• Lærke Ryom
• Michael Antrobus
• Pearson Lloyd
• Sia Hurtigkarl
The VÆRKTØJ platform was founded in 2024 by Frederik Weber, Gustav Dupont, Jonas Trampedach, Kasper Salto and Michael Antrobus.
‘VÆRKTØJ 3 invites visitors to consider the often invisible influence of tools and how they shape a designer’s identity.’

WORKS

AVALANCHE SOFA
by ERWAN BOUROULLEC, 2026
This exhibition invites us to define what we consider to be the ”best minimum”. The sofa is
constructed in the simplest, most direct way possible, focusing on essential form and
function. The use of Tyvek further redefines the minimum qualities of a textile: lightweight,
durable, and washable.

LOMME
by FOSTER + PARTNERS INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, 2026
The name ‘Lomme’ – the Danish word for pocket – reflects the spatial depth and form of the
lighting collection, which emerges through a simple act of connection. Stitching does more
than connect components; a single seam defines a geometric fold and creates structure.
A special thank you to Eulum DesignLtd. for providing the custom LED boards and controller
components.

SOFT BOX
by FREDERIK GUSTAV, 2026
Small folded and sewn textile volumes combine to create softly diffused clusters of light.
Connected by thin spring steel wires, the lighting system scales into free spatial formations
that climb and meander through space.

TAUT LAMP
by JONAS TRAMPEDACH, 2026
Taut Lamp draws on textile samples finished with translucent polyester thread. When
illuminated, the thread becomes nearly invisible. The fabric is stretched over a custom-made
glass tube that serves as both a light source and a structural element.
Thanks to Luna Metal, MKR Glas and Weirdwear.

OTTO
by KASPER SALTO, 2026
The table construction developed for last year’s exhibition is reinterpreted as a stool,
highlighting materials that share a story of quality, durability, and beauty. The cushion,
created by Rikke Salto from upcycled vintage fabric, echoes the warm glow and geometry of
the pressed-wood construction.

PEEP
by LOUISE CAMPBELL, 2026
Lightweight, roll-up lamps made from almost weightless textiles and paper, using as few
stitches as possible and designed for flat packing. Thin spiral bands and sticks maintain the
form, while the dark stitches serve only to join the materials.

ENFOLD CHAIR
by LÆRKE RYOM, 2026
The upholstery is designed and constructed as a tailored garment that dresses the frame of
the chair. Folds and creases challenge the traditional taut membrane, dissolving the
hierarchy between base and upholstery into a shared formation of texture and form.

PLANE
by MICHAEL ANTROBUS, 2026
A lounge chair composed of a leather sling, suspended within a steel framework. The sling is
made from two layers of leather that are precisely sewn together along their edges. Wooden
rests integrate seamlessly with the frame adding comfort to the chair’s industrial structure.
Thank you to Luna Metal and Søren Risvang for their help and expertise.

BICONE
by PEARSON LLOYD, 2026
This project continues our demateriality ethos. Ordinarily, we use sewing machines to
upholster an underlying form. But here, ripstop nylon and fibreglass struts create the form
itself. Shown as a pendant light, BiCone is one expression of an ongoing exploration into
screening, lighting and other typologies.

EN SEJLMAGERS STOL
by SIA HURTIGKARL, 2026
Made from discarded sails, this chair repurposes strong maritime textiles and preserves
traces of its previous life. It is a study of sailmaking as a craft, exploring stitching,
reinforcements, machines, materials, and construction methods used in the sailmaking
profession.
Thank you to Maria Holmkov and UK Sailmakers for the support.
