Johanson continues to develop the Pelican series with two new models
Pelican Bowl and Pelican Pocket. Both build on Johan Lindstén’s original design and the series’ distinctive design language, while adding new functions, seating experiences and areas of use.
The new models were shown for the first time during Salone del Mobile in Milan and during 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen.
The Pelican series has a clear formal identity, where the characteristic silhouette and graphic lines give the chair an expression that is both distinctive and easy to recognize. With Pelican Bowl and Pelican Pocket, the series takes its next step. The new models build on the same basic idea but add two different qualities: a more generous and embracing seating comfort in Pelican Bowl, and a light, pared-back bar stool for higher seating environments in Pelican Pocket. The result is a further development that broadens the series while retaining its original sharpness.

Pelican Bowl features a moulded seat with armrests that build on the original’s distinctive lines and design language. The armrests add increased comfort without compromising the clean, graphic silhouette. The result is a more embracing version of Pelican – with the same clear character, but with a softer and more generous seating experience. Pelican Bowl is well suited to environments where the chair is allowed to take its place both as a functional seating piece and as part of the room’s architectural expression.

Pelican Pocket is a bar stool with a low back and a further development of Johan Lindstén’s original design. Here, the characteristic silhouette is given a new functional dimension, adapted for higher seating environments. With its pared-back expression and low back, Pelican Pocket retains the series’ clear design language while adding a sense of lightness that makes it a natural choice for bar tables, kitchen islands, meeting areas and social spaces where the furnishing needs to feel both open and cohesive.
Colour and flexibility
Common to both new models is the moulded seat, available in 14 standard colours, and the metal frame, which can be offered in all RAL colours. This gives Pelican Bowl and Pelican Pocket great flexibility in projects where colour, expression and overall coherence play an important role.
With the two new models, Johanson shows how a strong original idea can be developed further while retaining its integrity. Pelican Bowl and Pelican Pocket deepen the series’ expression and function, while opening for more applications in both public and private environments.
