Jonas Stokke Unit Series for New Works and Eskoleia

The design

Danish design brand New Works has added the Unit Series to its collection, a family of six steel storage pieces designed by Oslo-based Jonas Ravlo Stokke and developed together with Norwegian manufacturer Eskoleia. The series combines the precision of heritage steel fabrication with an expressive approach to form, and grew from a shared curiosity about steel’s dual nature and what the designer and the manufacturer could draw from it together.

Materials and production

Each Unit is made to order at Eskoleia’s factory in Kongsvinger, Norway, where steel production dates back to 1912. The series comprises six units in 24 colours, and each piece can be customised in up to two colours. According to the designer, only mechanical fasteners are used throughout the series, so all panels are replaceable.

About Jonas Ravlo Stokke

Jonas Ravlo Stokke’s approach to design moves between structure and intuition. Influenced by his architectural upbringing and technical background, he explores geometry through drawing and full-scale experimentation. His work considers the entire life of an object, from its manufacture and distribution to how it is used, lived with and becomes part of its surroundings. His Oslo studio was established in 2016.
