The collection
Finnish glassmaker Iittala and Stockholm fragrance house Byredo have launched Ljus, a limited-edition collection of handcrafted glass objects made to accompany candlelight, incense and scent. Named after the Swedish word for light, the collection treats glass and flame as partners: each piece is designed to hold, refract or frame a Byredo candle, incense stick or reed diffuser, turning the everyday act of lighting or scenting a room into a small ritual.
First presented as a concept at Matter and Shape in Paris in March 2026, Ljus launches globally in October.

Five pieces in mouth-blown glass
All five objects are mouth-blown and hand-crafted at the Iittala Glass Factory in Finland, engraved with both the Iittala and Byredo logos, and produced as limited editions. Because each piece is shaped by hand, heat and breath, no two are identical.
- Light refractor (Ø17.5 × H21 cm) — a pulsing, rhythmic glass form that surrounds a lit candle and refracts its flickering light. Designed for the Byredo 240 g scented candle, such as Bibliothèque.
- Candle stand (Ø13.8 × H2.6 cm) — a heavy, handcast base in which small air bubbles and slight variations in shape make each stand unique. Designed for the Byredo 240 g candle.
- Candle ornament (Ø11.5 × H5.2 cm) — a decorative glass lid for a candle vessel when not in use, which can also serve as a candle stand.
- Incense holder (L16 × W11.5 cm) — handcast clear glass reminiscent of ice, made for Byredo incense sticks.
- Fragrance diffuser vessel (Ø13.7 × H15 cm) — a free-blown vessel designed for the Byredo reed diffuser set.

Fire and ice
The collection is built on a contrast between fire and ice — clarity and warmth, permanence and ephemerality. Clear, ice-like glass meets the warmth of flame and the movement of rising scent. Iittala creative director Janni Vepsäläinen has described the project as a way to explore the material expertise of both houses and bring a more ritual approach into the home.

Availability
Ljus is available from October 2026 through Byredo and selected Iittala stores. Byredo candles, incense and diffusers are sold separately.
