Crafted from discarded PEX water pipe scraps – materials traditionally incinerated due to their complex composition which prevents them from being reused – the Act Lamp embodies a commitment to circular design and resourceful innovation.
Driven by a continuous exploration of resourceful production methods, designer Simon Legald saw potential in these overlooked pipes. By diagonally slicing the pipes into oval rings and meticulously fusing them into translucent lampshades, the design minimizes energy use while preserving the material’s integrity. This thoughtful process not only reduces environmental impact but also highlights the inherent beauty of repurposed materials.
The resulting design offers transparency in more ways than one. The see-through lampshade casts captivating shadows when lit, reflecting the lamp’s resourceful origin. The oval shape of the sliced pipe rings is mirrored in the lampshade’s oval silhouette, creating a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic.
