Anker – A pillar candle stick in cast iron designed by the Norwegian designers Torbjørn Anderssen & Espen Voll
New beauty from old scrap metal
Cast iron has become very dear to us. It is a material that sums up the values of Nedre Foss; natural, solid, malleable, long-lasting, recycled and recyclable – new beauty from old scrap metal.
Lighting candles is important throughout the Nordic region and nobody burns more candles than the Norwegians. Lighting a candle serves as a celebration of the here and now, and a candle has the power to shift the mood: from the ordinary to something special, from work time to leisure time, from the pragmatic to romantic.

‘Anker’ reminds us of brutalist designs – or a pile of logs stacked for a bonfire. It was sketched with force.
Back and forth
The idea that finally developed into ‘Anker’ was present in some of the early sketches. It didn’t convince us immediately so we kept the process and search alive for a good 2 more years. All the different directions were 3D-printed in full scale and painted in a warm black hue to mimic the cast iron.
The iron is seasoned with rapeseed oil at 290 degrees C.
Please mind the weight!
Made in Sweden from 5150g of GG25 iron.
H 106 mm, D 185 mm.
