Beckmans College of Design 2021

Beckmans College of Design at Stockholm Design Week 2021 – joint exhibition with Konstfack and Malmstens at Superellipsen, Sergels torg

Beckmans College of Design participated in Stockholm Design Week 2021 alongside Konstfack and Malmstens in a shared exhibition at Superellipsen, Sergels torg in central Stockholm.

The exhibition presented work by students from all three institutions, offering a concentrated view of emerging Swedish design talent during the annual design week that accompanies the Stockholm Furniture Fair.

The collaboration between Beckmans, Konstfack, and Malmstens placed three of Sweden’s most significant design education institutions under one roof.

Each institution represents a distinct approach to design education and material culture: Konstfack as a broad arts and crafts university; Beckmans with its emphasis on design across fashion, visual communication, and interior and furniture design; Malmstens as a school with deep roots in Swedish craft tradition and the legacy of Carl Malmsten. Together, the three institutions cover the full breadth of Swedish design education.

Superellipsen at Sergels torg provided a central, publicly accessible venue that positioned the exhibition within the wider program of Stockholm Design Week rather than limiting it to the trade fair environment in Älvsjö. The decision to exhibit outside the fair reflects a broader shift in how design weeks have developed — extending beyond their original trade fair context to engage the city and a general audience more directly.

Beckmans College of Design is a private university in Stockholm founded in 1939. The school has produced generations of Swedish designers and maintains a strong emphasis on individual creative development within a professional context.
