The beetle chair was presented for the first time at the annual exhibition Mindcraft12 in Milan, organized by Danish Crafts

GamFratesi found the inspiration for Beetle Chair in the anatomy and aesthetic of the beetle. They reinterprets the beetle’s hard and characteristic shell and structure in a chair that, like an actual beetle, has a hard exterior and a soft interior. The dynamic ability of the insect in space, is developed through a four-legged chair on castors. The chair is stackable and flexible suited for informal meetings, allowing mobility around the table and being flexible and spontaneous in the workspace.

Strikingly simple in form but full of personality, Beetle Chair combines crafted details and advanced manufacturing technologies to produce something truly original: a highly versatile, extremely comfortable, and beautifully expressive chair inspired by the forms of nature.

In 2013, with GUBI GamFratesi introduced the Beetle Chair to the world, and a modern design classic was born. The Beetle’s unique success as a design is rooted in its distinctive fusion of artisanal craftsmanship and technologically advanced production techniques. Like the insect that inspired it, the chair combines an almost mechanical exactitude of form with an organic, contoured softness – a duality that mirrors the man-meets-machine story of its making.
