Zanat | Hand-Carved Furniture from Bosnia

Background

Zanat is based in Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where its hand-carving technique is listed by UNESCO as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. The company is breathing new life into a craft that was close to extinction, hiring and training young people and creating opportunities for the entire local community.

Design philosophy

Our vision and passion were soon recognized internationally by people who are now part of the Zanat family. While the designs and scale of our company have, and will continue to, evolve, our company values will not: satisfaction of our customers, and preservation of our heritage and environment.

Monica Förster: Creative Director

Monica Förster was appointed Creative Director of Zanat and has shaped more of the collection than anyone else, from the Iconic Award-winning Sana chair and the Golden Chair Award-winning Unna chair to the ballet-inspired Pointe table, the tree-like Nest coat hanger, and the Tara Cabinet, which marked ten years of the collaboration in 2025.

Harri Koskinen and international collaborations

Harri Koskinen‘s Igman family, bridging Bosnian and Finnish craftsmanship, has grown from the original Igman chair in 2018 through a mini lounge to a full lounge chair and ottoman. Renowned Swedish architect Gert Wingårdh, working with Sara Helder, designed the Branchmark table collection and the Café Tattoo chair.

Recent work

Zanat marked its 10th anniversary of design collaborations with the Zanat Ten collection in 2025, inviting its longtime designers to reflect on a decade of work — a fitting way to mark ten years of turning a nearly extinct craft into an internationally recognised design language.
