Cooper Lounge Chair by Kristian Sofus Hansen & Tommy Hyldahl – Norr11

Sophisticated with an edge

The Cooper Lounge Chair is, in many ways, a bridge between past and present, both in its form and expression.

Its rounded shapes and clean lines take inspiration from old, classic cars, where two simple curves come together to create a strong, recognizable identity that continues to fascinate design lovers to this day.

Composed of two simple forms – its curved frame and rounded seat and back – the Cooper Lounge Chair adopts the principle of pairing two simple forms that come together in a refined way but with a bold expression.

As a natural extension of NORR11’s design language, the Cooper Lounge Chair weaves together elements from different eras. Subtle references to the 70s and 80s give it a quiet familiarity, without revealing exactly why. This interplay between past and present is a hallmark of NORR11, where designs merge from various time periods, design directions, and cultures to create something new. One of its defining features is the frame, available in stainless steel or FSC-certified solid oak. The steel frame represents the contemporary side of NORR11, while the oak version connects to the brand’s heritage. The shape and incline of the wooden frame are no coincidence; they share a kinship with some of NORR11’s earliest lounge chairs, such as the Mammoth and Elephant lounge chairs, creating a direct link between the past and present.

But Cooper’s identity isn’t fixed. Its expression can shift remarkably depending on the combination of frame and upholstery. The seat and backrest are each composed of two curved shells, allowing for different upholstery on the front and back, which opens up endless creative possibilities. This flexibility enables designers and customers to shape the chair’s presence in a space, whether as a statement piece or a subtle addition.

At first glance, the Cooper Lounge Chair may appear simple – two curved forms coming together in a sculptural, well-balanced expression. A closer look, however, reveals depth in the details: the interplay of hard and soft, past and present, function and form. Every element is intentional, designed to create a chair that feels both familiar and boldly unique. In this way, Cooper embodies the essence of NORR11’s design philosophy, always seeking the final details that give a design its attitude and relevance, making Cooper a sophisticated chair, with an edge.
