Design Aarhus 2017: Nine Days of Danish Design Across the City, 29 September–7 October
Design Aarhus takes place from 29 September to 7 October 2017, running across nine days in Denmark’s second-largest city.
The event is not concentrated in a single venue but distributed across the city itself: designers, studios and institutions exhibit their work in shops, galleries, hotels, drawing rooms, banks, streets and alleys, turning Aarhus into an open design platform for the duration of the festival.
The programme covers a broad range of design disciplines, with a particular emphasis on furniture. Visitors can encounter many of the designers behind well-known Danish and Scandinavian furniture objects, presented in settings that range from formal gallery environments to more informal and unexpected spaces around the city.
Design Aarhus is an annual event that positions the Aarhus region as a significant centre of contemporary design production. Its city-wide format reflects an understanding that design is not confined to showrooms or exhibitions, but is present in the everyday environments people inhabit. The 2017 edition continues this approach, offering an accessible and varied programme for both design professionals and a general audience with an interest in Danish design culture.
Aarhus held the title of European Capital of Culture in 2017, giving Design Aarhus additional visibility and context within a broader year of cultural programming across the city.
