GamFratesi Named Designer of the Year at EDIDA 2020

The ELLE DECO International Design Awards — EDIDA — celebrated its 2020 edition as a digital ceremony, with the traditional Milan gathering replaced by online presentations across all 25 ELLE Decoration editions worldwide due to pandemic restrictions.

The 25 editors-in-chief of the ELLE Decoration network named Copenhagen-based studio GamFratesi as Designer of the Year.

Founded in 2006 by Danish designer Stine Gam and Italian designer Enrico Fratesi, GamFratesi draws on Danish furniture and craft tradition combined with an Italian intellectual and conceptual approach. The studio is known for work with Gubi, &Tradition, and Normann Copenhagen, including the Beetle Chair and Yuh Lamp.

Vincent Van Duysen received the Interior Designer of the Year award. The Belgian architect and designer, born in Lokeren in 1962, has led the architecture and product design studio Vincent Van Duysen Architects since founding it in Antwerp in 1989. Since 2016 he has also served as creative director of Italian brands Molteni&C and Dada.

Valencia-based studio Masquespacio was named Young Design Talent. In the Lighting category, Konstantin Grcic won for the Noctambule collection produced by Flos — a modular system of interconnected cylindrical blown glass modules that function as floor or pendant lamps. In the Bedding category, Neri & Hu won for the Twelve A.M. bed produced by Molteni & C. Elisa Ossino’s Balnea bathroom collection for Salvatori won in the Bathroom category. Patricia Urquiola won in the Floor Covering category for the Nuances collection for GAN. The Wall Covering category was won by Cristina Celestino for Policroma, produced by CEDIT. The Seating category went to StudioPepe for Lazybones, produced by Baxter.

EDIDA was established in 2002 and is recognised as one of the most significant international design awards, voted entirely by the editors-in-chief of the ELLE Decoration global network.
