Fanett is a chair that has earned its place in Nordic furniture history, offering unique qualities that make it just as relevant in 2025. We are proud to relaunch the featherlight Fanett Chair 55T, crafted in Edsbyn, in a wide variety of finishes and materials. Now featuring an even higher proportion of wood sourced from Swedish forests. An icon that truly deserves its place in the future.
1949
Edsbyn began producing Windsor chairs as early as 1936, using leftover wood from the ski manufacturing. The Fanett chair emerged in 1949 when factory foreman Lennart Karlstorp developed a chair design that minimized both weight and production costs. A few years later, the design was refined by Ilmari Tapiovaara and received the model name 55T. That’s when sales truly took off. By the time production of Fanett ceased in 1970, over 5 million chairs had been sold. Ever since, we’ve continued to receive inquiries about restarting production.
2025
Now, we are proudly reintroducing the long-awaited Fanett in the 55T model, with a few subtle updates to the original design. Both the chair and the stool have been slightly elevated to align with today’s standards, and the backrest is now crafted from birch sourced in Hälsingland, replacing the imported beech used in the original. This makes the Fanett Chair 55T, in 2025, more Swedish than ever before.
