Kajo signals a new era for lighting and material innovation
Mobel Studio Oy proudly unveils Kajo, a new lamp where timeless Nordic design meets innovative sustainable technology. Kajo signals a new era for lighting and material innovation. Fittingly, “Kajo” translates to “First Light” in Finnish — a name that celebrates both illumination and innovation. Kajo was introduced at the Scandinavian Design Embassy Garden Party in Paris, offering international audiences a glimpse into the future of Mobel’s Future Line Collection.
The shade of Kajo is crafted from Outokumpu Circle Green®, the world’s first near-zero stainless steel*. Produced with 100% recycled raw materials, powered by renewable and low-carbon energy, and optimized through pioneering processes, Circle Green® sets a new benchmark for low-emission metals.
“Lightness and sensibility to silence is always my aim,” explains Professor Jouko Järvisalo, the studio’s lead designer, describing the philosophy that has guided Mobel’s design for more than three decades. “Design is the union of mind and matter — a dialogue between intention and the material itself. Our furniture is deliberately pure and minimal; it does not compete with architecture; it becomes part of it. The intention is always to create harmony, leaving room for the architect’s vision and the space itself. This ethos shaped the development of Kajo, ensuring it integrates seamlessly into its environment while demonstrating original design and the potential of sustainable materials.”
