Kilen table by Mia Cullin for Gemla

Kilen | Scandinavian Design

Side table KILEN is designed by Mia Cullin

The name means wedge in Swedish, and it refers to the table’s defining detail: a smooth, sanded wedge at the centre of the tabletop where two sections join.

Rather than concealing the construction, the joinery becomes the surface feature — a choice that gives the table its quiet visual identity.

The tabletop has a softly rounded form, and the legs are made of solid steambent beech. The steam-bending process creates the characteristic gentle curve that gives the legs both their elegance and structural durability. The combination of the rounded top and curved legs gives the piece a lightness that makes it at home in most interior settings, from private living rooms to more formal environments.

Mia Cullin is a Swedish designer based in Stockholm with a broad practice spanning furniture, objects and spatial design. She has collaborated with Gemla on several occasions, each time working within the manufacturer’s craft traditions around bent wood and solid beech. Gemla is one of Sweden’s oldest furniture manufacturers, founded in Gemla, Småland, in 1891, and continues to produce furniture using steambent beech as a core material and manufacturing method.

Kilen is a straightforward piece — small in scale but specific in its details, and honest in how it presents its construction.
