BUILDING ON A SUCCESS STORY-NO.1 NOW AS AN ARMCHAIR
Børge Mogensen (1914-1972) lacked neither opinions nor visions whenever he picked up his sketchbook to design a piece of furniture. No matter whether he was designing chairs, sofas, tables or cupboards, they always made a strong statement in the Danish design world. His vision was also clear when he set out to draw a collection consisting of a sofa and an accompanying armchair.
In 1955, Børge Mogensen joined forces with Andreas Graversen in the newly purchased Fredericia Furniture, and he wanted to produce a collection which was innovative in design, upholstery and form. Together they succeeded in doing just that with Model 201, which is today known as No.1.
2014 was Børge Mogensen’s centennial year, in which Fredericia relaunched the Model 201 as No. 1, in both three- and two-seater editions. The sofa was such an instant success that by the end of 2014, it became Fredericia’s most successful sofa launch ever. A year later Fredericia is proud to complete the series with an armchair.
With its simple lines and cubic form, No. 1 was one of Børge Mogensen’s first testaments on how to draw an upholstered armchair in an elegant, yet edgy design. With a precisely cut body, softer delicate inner and slim legs, No. 1 stands out in any room.
Thanks to No. 1’s modern shape, harmonious size and incredible comfort, the chair matches any interior perfectly, whether a private living room or a busy hotel lobby. No. 1 can stand alone or blend seamlessly with any other of Fredericia’s award winning collection.
With a strong, sculptural appearance and buttons on the seat and back cushion, along with contrasting textiles on the shell and inner, No. 1 comes across as an innovative and refreshing addition to the classical design scene.
