Pesä Lounge Chair by Jouko Järvisalo for Mobel

Pesä lounge chair designed by Jouko Järvisalo for Mobel Studio Oy, veneer shell and steel base

Finnish interior architect and professor Jouko Järvisalo has designed Pesä, a sculptural lounge chair produced by Mobel Studio Oy in Finland.

The name means nest in Finnish — a place to land, pause, and feel at ease.

Pesä combines a steel base with a veneer shell made from PEFC-certified Finnish wood. Upholstery is available as COM (Customer’s Own Material), allowing the chair to adapt to its surroundings across residential, hospitality, and contract settings including lounges, lobbies, and office interiors.

jouko jarvisalo mobelJouko Järvisalo has worked from his own studio in Helsinki since 1979, designing furniture for Finnish manufacturers including Asko, Artek, Inno, and Mobel. He is Head Designer and Creative Director at Mobel, and has taught furniture design at Aalto University, School of Art and Design. His work is held in the collections of Designmuseo Helsinki, the Athenaeum in Chicago, Stedelijk in Amsterdam, and the Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art in Reykjavik.

On his approach, Järvisalo has said: “Lightness and sensibility to silence are my aim. Design is the union of mind and matter. A piece of furniture is created when thinking meets with the material used, as a result of the pondering that takes place in the middle ground between handiwork and the machine.”
