Reed is a series of glass vases designed by Monica Förster for Orrefors

Presented at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2023 and exhibited concurrently at Wetterling Gallery, Kungsträdgården 3, Stockholm.

The collection marks Monica Förster’s entry into glass design for one of Sweden’s most established crystal manufacturers.

The Reed vases draw their name and form from the movement of reeds in water — a natural reference that Förster translates into organic folds and compressed vertical forms in clear glass. The hand-crafted production at Orrefors’s glassworks in Småland gives each piece a distinct presence; the folds catch and refract light in ways that distinguish Reed from more geometric glass collections.

The collaboration extends Monica Förster’s practice across a wider range of materials — from upholstered furniture and carved wood to blown glass — demonstrating a design intelligence that is not medium-specific. For Orrefors, Reed represents an expansion into contemporary Swedish design while maintaining the technical excellence the brand has sustained since 1916.

The collection has since grown to include tealight holders and a storm lantern, confirming Reed as a defining series within Orrefors’s current range.
