Le Cube at PIASA in Paris presented Scandinavian metals mobile/mobilier
— an exhibition of works by Swedish designers Bertil Herlow Svensson and Mats Theselius, running from 25 March to 8 April 2016.
PIASA is a French auction house and cultural space located at 118 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, a street long associated with high-end art and design.
The Le Cube space within PIASA has been used for curated exhibitions that position Scandinavian design within the Parisian context, where Nordic furniture and applied arts have maintained consistent collector and institutional interest.
Mats Theselius is a Swedish designer known for his work with Källemo, the Swedish furniture manufacturer recognised for producing furniture of strong artistic character. Theselius designs — including pieces like the Aluminium Chair — are held in museum collections and have a presence in both the primary design market and the secondary auction market. Bertil Herlow Svensson is a Swedish designer and craftsman whose work in metals occupies a space between applied art and functional object.
The exhibition title’s use of mobile/mobilier — the French terms for both kinetic art and furniture — suggests a deliberate framing of the work across categories, consistent with how both designers approach their practice.
The show ran for two weeks in the spring Paris calendar, with viewing hours from 11am to 6pm daily. Contact for the exhibition was handled through PIASA specialist Éléonore Floret.
