Welcoming a sophisticated hue to the range, the new Steel Blue colour variant of Signe Hytte’s Journey lamp expands on a beloved part of &Tradition’s lighting collection.
This elegant update complements the existing Black and Silk Grey finishes and brings a fresh, modern aesthetic to the family, which includes both a wall lamp and a table lamp model.
Hytte’s Journey is a masterful merging of two classic geometric shapes: the sphere and the rectangle. The opal glass shade, reminiscent of the moon, is elegantly balanced by the rectangular base, creating a singular, timeless form.
In her approach to design, Signe Hytte embraces the beauty of simplicity, focusing on creating forms that are both functional and enduring. “Often with design, it’s not what you’re looking at—it’s what you see,” Hytte explains. “By fusing the sphere and rectangle, two universal shapes, I saw something more—a singular entity that is even more interesting.”
Hytte, continues, “I grew up in Scandinavia, so it’s in my DNA to seek simplicity. I like the challenge of removing anything extra, so that what remains is quite pure. Journey has a round sphere that normally rolls forward. In this case, the rectangle gives the sphere a solid place—to stay in place. Hence the name Journey. You can still go somewhere without moving, like in your imagination. Switch the lamp on, and it almost looks like a full moon.”
In line with the existing two colours, the new Steel Blue table lamp features the same brass dimmer, providing additional control when it comes to adjusting the ambiance with advanced dim-to-warm technology. Located on the lamp’s base, the dimmer allows the user to adjust the light from a cool, bright white—ideal for daytime activities—to a warm, soft glow, perfect for winding down in the evening.
While the Journey SHY1 has been designed to be a table lamp only, the SHY2 model serves as both a table lamp and a wall lamp, offering flexibility in placement and use. The new Steel Blue variant joins the existing options: Black and Silk Grey.
