Everyday Icons: The Tired Man Edition
Audo unveils a new expression of 1930’s elegance with a special edition of Flemming Lassen’s The Tired Man Lounge Chair. Now part of the Everyday Icons collection, this Danish design classic is thoughtfully reimagined in contemporary materials — offering a tactile tribute to Lassen’s original.
Audo Copenhagen’s recently launched Everyday Icons concept honours inclusive designs with enduring cultural significance. This evolving collection presents thoughtfully curated Audo furniture, lighting and objects that embody the hallmarks of icons — going beyond form and function to create deep emotional and cultural connections.
Following the introduction of a modernised Knitting Chair by Ib Kofod-Larsen, Audo now reimagines another Danish design classic: Flemming Lassen’s 1936 The Tired Man Lounge Chair. Introduced into the Everyday Icons collection, this beloved piece is presented in a contemporary materiality that celebrates both comfort and simplicity.
“The Tired Man is more than a chair — it’s an enduring symbol of Danish craftsmanship and comfort. By introducing it into our Everyday Icons collection, we honour Flemming Lassen’s legacy while offering a fresh perspective that speaks to contemporary living.” Design & Brand Director, Joachim Kornbek Engell-Hansen.
Through Everyday Icons, Audo pays tribute to visionary designers — past and present — who have created works of lasting importance. In the case of The Tired Man, Audo honours an architect and designer who was influential in bringing functionalism to Denmark. Renowned for his exacting craftsmanship and distinctive aesthetic, Flemming Lassen left an indelible mark on Danish design.
Originally unveiled at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1936, Lassen’s The Tired Man has been considered a collectible for nearly a century. It exemplifies the enduring appeal of Danish craftsmanship and aesthetics — proof that well-made, thoughtfully designed objects stand the test of time. With this new iteration, Audo bridges generations,
connecting design lovers from the past, present and future.
The Tired Man’s sculptural shape is emblematic of 1930’s ideals. It features a winged backrest and subtly tapered armrests that seem to invite the body into its soft embrace. The voluminous, gently curved silhouette cocoons the sitter, delivering unparalleled comfort and giving the chair its evocative name.
“The embodiment of cosy comfort and timeless aesthetics, Flemming Lassen’s The Tired Man Lounge Chair is Danish design at its best.”
Lassen originally envisioned The Tired Man in plush sheepskin upholstery — a fabrication that remains in Audo’s collection. For this new Everyday Icons edition,
Audo introduces a fresh material perspective tailored to modern sensibilities. The chair is now upholstered in white Baena bouclé, a refined textile by renowned Italian maker Limonta. To create an elegant contrast, dark-stained oak legs have been chosen to complement the light, crisp upholstery. Together, these materials exude contemporary sophistication, allowing the chair to integrate seamlessly into any setting.
“Everyday Icons is about celebrating designs that transcend time, and The Tired Man is a perfect example. With this new edition, we bring a cherished classic into the present, ensuring its beauty and comfort remain accessible for generations to come.” Design & Brand Director, Joachim Kornbek Engell-Hansen.
Completing the offering, the matching Ottoman is now also available in Baena bouclé upholstery, providing an added layer of comfort when paired with the reimagined lounge chair.
Designed with both quality and accessibility in mind, this new edition of Flemming Lassen’s chair and its matching ottoman ensure that more design lovers can live with enduring classics.
