Stockholm Craft Week 2021

Stockholm Craft Week 2021 – Sweden's biggest contemporary craft event, 30 September–3 October, 54 producers and over 100 events

Stockholm Craft Week returned for its third edition 30 September–3 October 2021, establishing itself as Sweden’s largest dedicated event for contemporary craft.

In only its third year, the festival attracted 54 producers and offered more than 100 individual craft events across Stockholm.

The event’s rapid growth reflects a wider renewed interest in craft as both practice and cultural category — an interest that accelerated during the period immediately preceding the 2021 edition, when the distinction between handmade and industrially produced objects gained new significance for both makers and audiences.

Stockholm Craft Week operates as a distributed event rather than a single venue fair: participating producers, galleries, studios, and institutions open across the city simultaneously, turning Stockholm itself into the exhibition space.

Contemporary craft in Sweden spans a wide range of disciplines — ceramics, glass, textiles, metalwork, wood, and jewellery — and the breadth of Stockholm Craft Week reflects this. The event sits at an intersection between the design world and the fine arts, drawing audiences from both and providing a platform for makers whose practice does not fit neatly into either.

Stockholm Craft Week was first held in 2019. Its establishment as a recurring annual event has given craft in Sweden a dedicated moment in the cultural calendar comparable to what design weeks have provided for product design internationally. The 2021 edition was the first held without pandemic restrictions significantly curtailing participation.
