Stockholm Design Talks: Shohei Shigematsu

OMA New York Director Shohei Shigematsu at Stockholm Design Talks

Stockholm Design Talks presented Shohei Shigematsu, Director of OMA New York, in a lecture held during Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016.

Shigematsu introduced a selection of projects from the OMA New York office, exploring new strands and hybrids of architecture typologies — among them food hubs, elevated parks, and urban water strategies.

Shohei Shigematsu joined OMA in 1998 and became a Partner in 2008. He leads the New York office, which has developed a distinctive body of work characterised by an interest in culture, retail, and urban infrastructure. Projects from the office have included cultural and civic buildings in North America and Asia, as well as collaborations with fashion and cultural institutions.

OMA — the Office for Metropolitan Architecture — was founded by Rem Koolhaas and Elia Zenghelis in Rotterdam in 1975. The firm works at the intersection of architecture, urbanism, and cultural analysis, and has offices in Rotterdam, New York, Beijing, Hong Kong, Doha, and Dubai. OMA is recognised internationally for projects including the Seattle Central Library, CCTV Headquarters in Beijing, and the Casa da Música in Porto.

Stockholm Design Talks is a lecture programme organised in connection with Stockholm Furniture Fair, bringing architects, designers, and cultural figures to a broader audience during fair week. The talks have hosted figures from across the international design and architecture community since the programme’s inception.
