Rento Grows: Studio Tolvanen Adds Lounge Armchair to Sofa System for True Design
Studio Tolvanen’s Rento collection at True Design continues to grow.
The Finnish design duo Julie and Mika Tolvanen have extended their modular Rento Sofa System with a lounge armchair that maintains the collection’s signature formal language — curved bentwood frames paired with soft textile cushions.
Viewed from above, the armrests and backrest form a near-perfect circle, an arc that draws the sitter in and encourages relaxed, unhurried seating. The Rento Lounge Armchair integrates seamlessly into the broader Rento system, which combines curved wooden frames with generous cushions across a range of modular configurations.
The collection reflects the Tolvanens’ characteristic approach: warm, approachable forms rooted in Scandinavian craft tradition, updated with a contemporary lightness.
Studio Tolvanen
Founded in 2015, Studio Tolvanen is the product design office of husband-and-wife team Mika & Julie Tolvanen. Projects range from small everyday objects to furniture collections, which they design from their studio and workshop on the island of Lauttasaari in Helsinki, Finland. Studio Tolvanen’s work has been part of the Puhdetyö exhibition in Helsinki Design Week, as well as the Furnishing Utopia exhibitions in Stockholm and New York, which was awarded Furniture of the Year by Årets Rum and included on Dezeen’s Shortlist.
