Jury’s Statement
With The Executive, Jenny Nordberg reshapes our view of office furniture, moving away from standardised throwaway products to a collection of unique objects with character and a focus on sustainability. The series is based on the reuse of leftover parts that would otherwise be discarded, such as sound absorbers, damaged frames, and surplus tambour cabinets, which are transformed into new furniture with strong presence and clear functionality.
The collection demonstrates how design can be both critical and constructive. With precision and humor, The Executive challenges norms around aesthetics, status, and value in the workplace, while uniting circular thinking with formal integrity.
The jury sees here an exemplary case of how leftover materials can be utilised to create furniture and products that are both environmentally and economically sustainable—a collection that points forward by starting from what already exists.
The Executive Series: Jenny Nordberg’s Circular Design Vision with Soeco Sweden
Jenny Nordberg collaborates with Swedish company Soeco to create The Executive, an innovative furniture series that transforms unwanted office furniture into sophisticated new designs. The industrial designer approaches discarded components as raw material, reimagining sound absorbers as comfortable sofas, damaged desk supports as lighting fixtures, and jalousie cabinets as sculptural shelving. Each piece demonstrates circular design principles, where potential replaces waste. Produced at Soeco’s Lund workshops, the collection includes seating, tables, storage, and lighting – all available made-to-order. This partnership elevates furniture recycling from waste management to creative production, offering sustainable solutions for contemporary office environments.
