Classic Meets Contemporary: FDB Møbler Honors Mogens Koch’s 125th Anniversary with Sustainable L43 MK46 Relaunch

Discover the timeless elegance of the L43 sofa – a true masterpiece by Mogens Koch originally designed in 1947 and recently relaunched by FDB Møbler.

With its soft, sculptural lines and clear form, this 3-seater offers classic comfort and versatility for any living space. A sofa made to last, and to love, for generations to come.

L43 Mogens Koch sofa

In 1947, Mogens Koch designed a light and functionalist sofa as a special commission for Gammel Kjøgegaard, a Danish manor near the town of Køge. The post-war era provided the opportunity and resources for new trends and forms, with simple functionalism serving as a cornerstone for many of the period’s designers. The Mogens Koch sofa series stands as a remarkable testament to this movement in design culture. A lightweight sofa with gently curved armrests, placed firmly on a distinct frame. The visible frame is a hallmark of Mogens Koch’s design philosophy. Unlike lower-quality furniture that often conceals its frame behind upholstery, Koch sought an honest display of craftsmanship.

Building architect and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Mogens Koch (1898 – 1992) was noticed to that extent – also as a furniture architect behind well -known classics such as the building rack (1928) and the folding chair (designed in 1933, produced from 1959).

Koch was employed by Kaare Klint for a period up to 1934, after which he opened his own drawing room in 1934. At the studio, the tasks were many and versatile, ranging from furniture, new construction, fonts, silver and textiles.

Mogens Koch actively participated in the idealistic development work that would lead to better and cheaper furniture for FDB customers. So even though Mogens Koch Møbler today achieves high auction prices, many of them were drawn with a rationale in use and production in mind.

The beautiful and strong shelf boxes are among his most popular design. Designed in the 1940s – and loved worldwide for their simplicity and countless combination options. This is really a piece of furniture that survives generation after generation.
