Källemo Keeps Iconic Swedish Furniture Alive
Today, November 2, 2025, marks what would have been John Kandell’s 100th birthday—a milestone that deserves recognition and celebration.
There is something profoundly special about John Kandell’s work. His designs continue to fascinate, generation after generation.
His legacy has been documented in books, most recently in Gunilla Lundahl’s remarkable “Leken och allvaret John och Ulla Kandell” (Play and Seriousness: John and Ulla Kandell). His works have been exhibited at both the National Museum and ArkDes. Källemo has produced several of John’s models, and the collaboration between John Kandell and Sven Lundh was extraordinary to witness. The furniture that Källemo continues to produce, more than 30 years after John’s passing, remains undated. There is much to learn from studying his solutions and sensing the confidence in his choices. There is always reason to return to John Kandell.
