Anker Bak has designed a wall desk that has been pared back to the bare essentials – Carl Hansen & Søn

CARL HANSEN & SØN, IN A COLLABORATION WITH THE DANISH DESIGNER ANKER BAK, PRESENTS A WALL DESK WHOSE SIMPLE AESTHETICS SPEAK TO THE JAPANESE CULTURE OF TINY LIVING.

Danish designer Anker Bak (b. 1983) has designed a wall desk that has been pared back to the bare essentials. The desk is inspired by Anker Bak’s own experiences of tiny living and draws upon his many visits to Japan where small housing necessitates a minimalist and functional approach to design.

The desk consists of a slim tabletop, made from oak or laminate, and stainless-steel wall mounts. Its design embraces a minimalist aesthetic, showcasing beautiful yet functional details. The tabletop is finished with a rounded edge that softens the design whilst also serving as a comfortable armrest. An optional wall desk drawer made from solid oak mirrors the organic, tactile design idiom of the desk and can either be fitted underneath the tabletop or positioned on top, doubling as a laptop stand. Equipped with a practical opening for wires, the spacious drawer allows chargers to be discreetly stored out of sight. Magnetic, solid oak cover caps hide the wall mount screws to complete the desk’s simple look.

On the launch, Knud Erik Hansen, CEO and third generation owner-manager of Carl Hansen & Son, says: “Anker Bak is on an exciting journey developing meaningful design, which has already seen him recognised with distinctions including the 2023 Wegner Prize and a ‘Designer of the Year’ award in 2024. As such, we are delighted to be collaborating with him on this wall desk – its practical design, aesthetic and quality are all a perfect fit with Carl Hansen & Søn’s collection of furniture classics.”

Referring to his Wall Desk, Anker Bak says: “People are always at the core of my designs. With this desk, I consciously made room for both work and leisure – side by side. When our surroundings adapt to us and our lives, it means we have more time and energy for both work and family. I have first-hand experience of this. That’s why this desk also tries to make the traditionally heavier or industrial desk a completely simple and functional piece that will fit into any home, living room or office.”
